CANADIANS OF HELLENIC DESCENT IN THE LEGAL PROFESSIONS
IN THE EDMONTON REGION

Historical Notes:

  • Dean Saks, James Campbell and James Dimos, all World War II veterans, were classmates at the University of Alberta, graduating with law degrees in 1951.
  • Dean Saks and James Campbell started a law practice named “Saks and Campbell”. They were later joined Lucien Maynard as the firm “Maynard, Saks and Campbell”. James Dimos later joined the same firm, which became “Maynard, Saks, Campbell and Dimos”.
  • Dean Saks, James Dimos and Lucien Maynard were each appointed Queen’s Counsel.

  • Dean Saks was appointed to the Bench in 1970. James Dimos and James Campbell were appointed judges at later dates. Eventually all members of the firm became judges.
  • Judge Tom Chanakos was a former RCMP officer who was appointed and presided in the Provincial Court Rural Circuit.
